Calendar Confusion

There has been some confusion regarding the dismissal time for the last day before the holiday break, December 19th.  Students will be dismissed at 1:00 PM.   Some IWCS calendars noted this early dismissal time while others did not.

Jeremy Wheeler Visits CAES

Jeremy Wheeler, the meteorologist from WAVY-10 visited CAES today to share a presentation about weather with the 2nd graders.  The students loved seeing videos about storm chasers tailing tornadoes and watching footage from Hurricane Sandy and Hurricane Irene.

The best part about the entire presentation...Mr. Wheeler shared that there is good chance of snow this winter....get those sleds ready!!!

Art Project- Elves and the Shoemaker

Many of you probably sent in extra shoes a few weeks ago to Art class.  Well, Mrs. Jinright used them for an extra special art project entitled, "Elves and the Shoemaker".  Check out some of the results...so cool!

2nd Grade Chorus Concert

Carrollton Elementary shined as bright as the lights on Broadway on November 13th as the 2nd Grade performed their annual concert.

Here is the video of their finale!

Congratulations to all of the 2nd graders on their hard work and fine performance.  I think that we have a few future X Factor or American Idol Finalists!!!

A special thanks to Mrs. Willard and the rest of the CAES Resource Team for their preparation and hard work in preparing our students for their moment in the spotlight.

Finally, the Lilly Family enjoyed their front row "box" seats with beverage service.  They won the seats at the Isle of Wight Education Foundation Auction on October 20th.  Similar seating packages were also purchased for the 3rd, 1st, and K concerts.  Remember this when the IOWEF has their annual Gala and Auction in October 2013.

CAES Presentation to the School Board

CAES Librarian Ms. Freeman, Reading Specialist Mrs. Smith, Assistant Principal Novak, and Principal Goetz presented to the Isle of Wight County School Board on November 8th about the many special reading events that take place throughout the school year at Carrollton Elementary.  The Board was very enthusiastic about the presentation and enjoyed seeing the very many special events that occur throughout the school year at CAES to celebrate the joys of reading.  As noted in the presentation, CAES puts the "fun" into the fundamental skill of reading!

CAES Votes for President

The adults may vote tomorrow, but CAES students hit the ballot box today.

Students had been prepared by their teachers to make their choice before approaching the voting booths set up in the CAES Lobby just outside of Nurse Stalls' Clinic

Students received a ballot and then stepped inside the voting booth
Just like the high voter turnout that is expected for the real election, there were lines at CAES

Once students had made their selection, they dropped of their ballots and received a special sticker letting everybody know that they had voted

After all of the votes were counted, CAES named Barack Obama their President for another 4 years by a vote of 272-248.

A big THANKS to Mrs. Lenz for organizing the CAES Election and to Mrs. Marshall and Mrs. Coffman for running everything in the lobby.
